Hospital Bed is a bed that is designed for hospitalized patients those require some form of health care and have some special features which is beneficial for both patient and health care workers for their convenience.

• A combination of metal and plastic is used in a hospital bed. The hospital beds generally comes in the size of a twin bed with a little extra length, and are mounted on wheels for allowing mobility.

• Adjustable height, head, and the feet; adjustable side rails and electronic buttons to operate both the bed and other nearby electronic devices are some of the common features of a hospital bed.

• A hand cranks is used to raise the entire bed level, as well as the head and foot sections of the bed in case of a manual hospital bed.
• The adjustment of height can be done with cranks which are usually found at the foot of the bed in case of a manual bed, where as on modern beds this feature is electronic.
• A fully electric bed has several features that are electronic, where as a semi-electric bed has two motors. One is used to raise the head, and the other to raise the foot while the height can be adjusted through a crank manually.
• Manual Hospital Beds are cost effective and are ideal for patients who either have a caretaker or who can use the hand crank to raise and lower the bed.
• Raising the head is known as a Fowler's position which is used for sitting the patient upright for feeding or certain other activities, such as ease breathing. It may be beneficial to the patient for other reasons.
• Movement of the patient toward the headboard will be easier by raising the feet which may also be necessary for certain conditions.
• The height of the bed can be adjusted by either raising or lowering that help bring the bed to a comfortable level for the patient to get in and out of bed. It is also helpful for caregivers to work with the patient.
• The side rails serve as protection for the patient and can make the patient feel more secure. The side rails can be raised or lowered and can also include buttons which can be used for their operation by staff and patients to move the bed, call the nurse, or even control the television
• The side rails can also include some equipment that can help the patient to do certain activities by themself without physically confining to bed.
• Some of the hospital beds can have the features that can help tilt the bed to 15 to 30 degrees on each side which can help prevent pressure ulcers for the patient, and help caregivers to do their daily tasks with less of a risk of back injuries.
• The hospital beds can have a bed exit alarm which is helpful for the hospital staff or caregivers to monitor any number of patients from a distance as the alarm will trigger when a patient is falling out of the bed or wandering off unsupervised.
• A CPR function can be offered by some hospital beds in the form of a button or lever which flattens the bed platform and put it in lowest height when activated and deflates and flattens the air mattress of the bed if installed creating a flat hard surface necessary for CPR administration.
