Oxygen Regulator:


Oxygen Regulator is the pressure reducing device of the cylinder gas maintain the constant gas flows to a workable level for operating equipment and instruments. Oxygen regulators are used in oxygen cylinders to regulate the flow of oxygen.

Therefore, these regulators are used for applications that require a constant outlet pressure for the life of an oxygen cylinder.
  • The speed must be slowed down when the oxygen cylinder is deflated or the oxygen regulator is opened as the temperature of the working part of the oxygen regulator is greatly increased if the valve opening speed is too fast. This can happen due to the adiabatic compression, which may burn or damage the parts made of organic materials and the oxygen regulator can be completely burned out. It can also cause ignition and burn out the pressure reducer parts due to the discharge of too fast electrostatic spark and pressure reducer has oil.
  • The valve of the gas cylinder should be slightly opened before installing the medical regulator to blow off the dirt to prevent dust and moisture from entering the medical gas regulator.
  • The gas outlet of the cylinder valve must not be aimed at the operator or others when the cylinder valve is opened so that the high pressure gas can be prevented from bursting out and hurting people.
  • The gas rubber pipe joint and the exhaust port of the pressure reducer must be tightened with the wire or clamp that has been degassed.
  • Care must be taken to prevent the threaded joints of the pipe joints from slipping during the loading and unloading of the oxygen regulator to prevent the screws from being thrown out of position.
  • The pressure value of the working pressure gauge must be observed during the working process.
  • The pressure regulator screw of the pressure reducer should be loosen, the oxygen cylinder valve is then closed and the gas in the pressure reducer will be slowly exhausted while stopping the work. The spring and the pressure reduction valve can be protected from damage in this way.
  • The oxygen regulator can be removed from the cylinder after the work is completed.
  • Usually, Oxygen Regulators have Right hand Threads and do not have the cuts on the Hexagon when used for non combustible gases such as Oxygen, Argon, Co2 etc..
  • Regular repairing of the oxygen regulator and periodic inspection of the pressure gauge must be done to ensure the reliability of the pressure regulator and the accuracy of the pressure gauge readings.
  • Oxygen regulator should be repaired in time if there is a leak in the oxygen regulator and the pressure gauge is not working properly when in use.
  • An oxygen cylinder should never be used without a functioning regulator that fits properly with the cylinder valve.
  • Always keep valves closed when the tank is not in use, even if the tank is empty.
  • Never put any adhesive tape around the cylinder neck, oxygen vale or regulator assembly as it can hamper oxygen delivery.
  • Oxygen regulator should never be used for other gases as cross-contamination of internal parts especially with grease or oil could cause rapid oxidation and fire.
  • The regulator unit can be sliped over the top of the oxygen cylinder to align the pins. You can slip the wrench over the top of the cylinder, turn counterclockwise to register pressure. The oxygen tube and nasal cannula can be connected to the oxygen outlet on the regulator and then the oxygen can be set to the prescribed flow rate with the help of the flow control knob.

Installion and Operation of Oxygen Regulator:

 

  • The plastic cover should be removed from cylinder neck.
  • Presence of a washer on the largest pin of the regulator should be ensured.
  • The regulator should be attached by sliding it onto the cylinder neck until three pins line up with three holes on the cylinder.
  • The screw on the regulator should be tighten.
  • Cylinder should be opened by turning valve counterclockwise until pressure gauge on regulator indicates the amount of oxygen in the tank.
  • Tubing and nasal cannula should be connected securely to the nipple on the regulator.
  • The flow setting should be set to your prescribed setting by turning the knob on the regulator.
  • The contents gauge should be periodically checked while in use.
  • The cylinder valve should be closed before removing regulator. The remaining oxygen should be bleed off before removing the regulator which can sometimes create a load hissing noise.
  • The flow knob can be turned on again after the cylinder valve is closed to release the remaining oxygen. The flow knob should be turned off before removing the regulator.
