Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate is an anionic detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products such as soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, etc.. The foamy, bubbly consistency to these products is given by Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).

• All of these products in which Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate is used are topical, or applied directly to the skin or body.
• It can also be used as a food additive, usually as an emulsifier or a thickener.  
• The products containing Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate that stay on the skin longer should not exceed one percent concentration of SLS.
• The risks are minimal as many of these products are rinsed off after short applications.
• Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate are approved as indirect food additives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are permitted to be used as components of coatings.
