Tissue paper is a lightweight paper usually made from recycled paper pulp. Tissue papers are made from different types of raw material including chemical pulp, wood containing pulp and recycled paper. Bamboo pulp and wheat straw pulp are now in used as other fibers.
Types of Tissue Paper:
Basically there are four types of tissue papers available. These include Hygienic tissue paper , Facial Tissue, Paper Towel and Wrapping Tissue. The quality of each of these tissue papers are according to the usage and its properties, such as absorption, porosity, tensile strength, coarseness, and tactility.
Hygienic tissue paper:
Hygienic tissue paper is usually used for personal use such as facial tissue or paper handkerchiefs, napkins, bathroom tissue and household towels.
A paper napkin or face towel is a piece of tissue paper used at the table for wiping the mouth and fingers while eating.
Facial tissue and paper handkerchiefs are usually made from the lowest weight tissue paper that might be treated with softeners, added perfume or lotion to get the right properties. The surface is also made smoother by light embossing to make it suitable for use on the face.
Paper towels are commonly used in kitchen and bathroom of every household. There are two different types of paper towels that include: Commercial paper towels and Household paper towels. Commercial paper towels are used in offices, hospitality sector, schools and stadiums, where as Household paper towels are mostly used at home for everyday cleaning and wiping tasks. These kind of tissue papers can be made from either chemical pulp or recycled fibre. These are also can be made by a combination of the two. Generally, some long fibre chemical pulp is added to improve strength of the tissue paper.
Wrapping tissue is a thin, translucent tissue paper that can be used for wrapping or packing various articles. It can also be used as a filler for gift boxes and gift bags for protecting fragile items. Acid free wrapping tissue paper are also available which is specifically processed without certain agents. This wrapping tissues are ideal for storage of items such as jewellery, ornaments, fabric, crockery and antiques as it won't turn acidic over time. Acid free wrapping tissue paper is widely used for more fragile or delicate items, where as standard wrapping tissue paper can be used for many purpose including gift wrapping, general wrapping, bottle wrapping, as a filler for gift boxes and gift bags. These can also be used in crafts.
The quality of these tissue paper varies based on the region and the manufacturer. All of these tissue paper types come in a variety of thicknesses which is measured in Grams per Square Metre (GSM). The lower the number of GSM, the thinner is the paper. Generally tissue paper ranges from 10 to 35 GSM.
Uses of Tissue Paper:
- Table napkins can be made of tissue paper which are available in a variety of qualities, sizes, folds, colors and patterns.
- Tissue paper in the form of standard single ply toilet paper is generally used in road repair as application of toilet paper removes the stickiness and keeps the tar in place. So, the road to be reopened immediately. It can also protect crack sealants.
- Tissue papers are widely used in packing industry for various purpose. These include: packing various items, wrapping and protecting fragile items, stuffing in shoes or bags to keep them in proper shape, for inserting in garments and folding to keep them wrinkle free and safe, filling in gift boxes etc..These tissue papers are generally printed with the manufacturers brand name or, logo to enhance the look of the product.
