The state is bordered by Telangana in the north-west, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in the north-east, Karnataka in the west, Tamil Nadu in the south, and to the east lies the Bay of Bengal. The small enclave of Yanam, a district of Puducherry, lies to the south of Kakinada in the Godavari delta on the eastern side of the state.
With two beautiful rivers, Krishna and Godavari, Andhra Pradesh is widely advertised as the Kohinoor of India by the tourism department. The state is most visited for its world famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati also known as Tirupati temple.
Other pilgrimage centres in the state include the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga at Srisailam, the Srikalahasteeswara Temple at Srikalahasti, the Ameen Peer Dargah in Kadapa, the Mahachaitya at Amaravathi, the Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada, and Prasanthi Nilayam in Puttaparthi. Srisailam Mallikarjuneswar temple is famous Shiva shrine and is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India.
The natural attractions of the state include the beaches of Visakhapatnam, hill stations such as the Araku Valley and Horsley Hills, and the island of Konaseema in the Godavari River delta. Some stupendous structures in the state like Srisailam and Lepakshi temples are a must visit place. Shahi Jamia Masjid in Adoni of Kurnool district is also a famous mosques built during the reigns of Muslim rulers.
Rajahmundry city, located on the banks of Godavari River is one of the main attractions of the city. Kolleru Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in India located in the state of Andhra Pradesh which is a located between Krishna and Godavari delta.
The state has many sanctuaries, national parks and zoological parks, such as Coringa, Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary, Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park and Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. Atapaka Bird Sanctuary, Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary and Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary attract many migratory birds.
The official language of Andhra Pradesh is Telugu. Andhra Pradesh state is the leading producer of red chili, rice and the liberal use of spices makes the food one of the richest and spiciest in the world. Pappu, tomato, gongura, and tamarind are largely used for cooking curries. Spicy and hot varieties of pickles form an important part of Telugu cuisine. Andhra Pradesh has rich culture and heritage. Kuchipudi, the state dance originated in the village of Kuchipudi in Krishna district, had entered the Guinness World Records.
