Arunachal Pradesh is one of the 29 states of India and is the northeastern-most state of the country. Arunachal Pradesh borders the states of Assam and Nagaland to the south and shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and is separated from China in the north by the McMahon Line. Itanagar is the capital of the state.

Arunachal Pradesh is an amazing destination for a perfect holiday as it houses picturesque mountains, unexplored passes, tranquil lakes and famous monasteries. Most of Arunachal Pradesh is mountainous which look serene during winters when snowfall covers their peaks. Much of the state, including the Himalayan foothills and the Patkai hills, are home to Eastern Himalayan broadleaf forests.  It supports a large number of medicinal plants. The mountain slopes and hills are covered with alpine, temperate, and subtropical forests of dwarf rhododendron, oak, pine, maple and fir. The state has Mouling and Namdapha national parks. Kangte, Nyegi Kangsang, the main Gorichen peak and the Eastern Gorichen peak are some of the highest peaks in this region of the Himalayas. As Dong Basti and Vijaynagar basti in Arunachal Pradesh are the easternmost village of the country, either or both receives the first morning sun rays in the entire country. The mountain ranges in Arunachal Pradesh are described as 'the place where the sun rises' in historical Indian texts and named the Aruna Mountains. Some of the major rivers are Kameng, Subansiri, Siang, Dibang, Lohit and Noa-Dihing rivers.

Recent excavations of ruins of Hindu temples, such as the 14th century Malinithan at the foot of the Siang hills in West Siang, indicate they were built during the Chutiya reign. Bhismaknagar is another notable heritage site that was built in 8th century. The 400-year-old Tawang Monastery in the extreme north-west of the state, provides some historical evidence of the Buddhist tribal people. The sixth Dalai Lama Tsangyang Gyatso was born in Tawang.

The main archeological sites of the state include Tawang Monastery, Malinithan Temple, Dirang Dzong, Ita Fort, Dimachung-Betali, Bhismaknagar Fort, Tezu Fort, Bolung Fort, Gomsi Fort, Rukmini Fort and Naksha Parbat ruins.
