Dhamtari is an important tourist town of Chattisgarh that is home to the Chalukya empire of the 14th Century. It is also known for its temples, folk culture and wildlife sanctuary. Dhamtari is located along the banks of Mahanadi and its tributaries Pairy, Sendur, Sondur, Joan, Kharun and Shivnath. Paddy cultivation is common in these lands. Lots of tourists gets attracted every year, particularly during the monsoon seasons to the Ravishankar Water Dam.

Sihava is one of the most important pilgrimage centers of Chhattisgarh that is surrounded by forests and mountains. The place is situated on the banks of River Mahanadi offering captivating views. Amrit Kund, Danteshwari Cave, Ganesh Ghat, Karbeshwar Temple and Ashram of Hringi Hathi Khot are some of the other major attraction situated in this area. 

The Bilai Mata Temple is a beautiful temple known for its exquisite architectural carvings. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga.

The Gangrel Dam is the longest dam in Chhatisgarh and has been built across Mahanadi River. It is situated 15 kilometres away from the main town of Dhamtari and 90 kilometres away from Raipur. Gangrel Dam is also perfect for enjoying recreational activities with family or friends as well as state of the art water sports such as Jet skiing, Water surfing, Water skiing, Scuba Diving, Sailing, Parasailing, and Kite surfing. The essential functions of the dam are irrigation, generating power and to provide water to Bhilai Steel Plant and new capital city Raipur.

There are a number of resorts and sandbanks on the banks of the waters.

Rudri was believed to be the capital of Kanker Kingdom during the reign of Rudra Dev. It is located on the banks of River Mahanadi with its prime tourist attraction, Rudreshwar Temple. There is also a large reservoir built nearby.
