Gopalpur is located in the southern coastline of Odisha just 15 km from the city of Behrampur. One of the best beaches in the eastern coastline of the country, know for being an offbeat destination and a place for relaxation. Gopalpur also has an ancient, commercial port, now lying in ruins. Under the ownership of the Soraine family the village grew in wealth, from an obscure little fishing village, Gopalpur became a prominent trading port. The family built the port, the lighthouse and the Albert Hotel and established both a local fishing industry and a trade route with Burma. The Gopalpur-on-sea is considered to be one of India's most beautiful beaches largely due to its remoteness, its peace and its offbeat crowd. The beaches are sparkling gold which along with the azure water of the Bay of Bengal providing a perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature.
The main attraction of Gopalpur are Gopalpur Beach, Ramha, Gopalpur lighthouse, Mayfair palm resort, Chilika Lake, Rushikulya Beach and many more.
The Gopalpur Beach is a luxurious beach flanked with coconut and casuarina groves and is a perfect outing for a languorous weekend which is located on the east coast of the Bay of Bengal. The beach, also known as 'Gopalpur-on-Sea', is a deserted one with a long coastline dotted with gentle sand dunes and beautiful seashells.
The most famous attractions of the beach are the annual Gopalpur Beach Festival and aqua sports. One of the most popular landmarks of the beach is its lighthouse which offers a marvellous view of the entire city of Gopalpur and the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal.
The Gopalpur lighthouse provides a 360 degree view of Gopalpur, the beach and some parts of the Chilika Lake.
Ramha is located about 35 km from Gopalpur which provides a great entry point into the famous Chilika Lake. The place is covered in great greenery and also has a bird sanctuary.
The Mayfair palm resort has a lavish beach side pool along with a great bar-cum-restaurant which offers some great entertainment coupled with food and drinks.
Chilika Lake is the biggest inland salt-water lake. Situated 50 km away from Puri, this lake is a major tourist attraction in Odisha. An expansive lake set amidst a beautiful landscape full of lush greenery, the Chilika Lake has beautiful island laden with trees.
