If the ends are sticking out and feel rough, when you run the ends through your fingers, your hair is probably damaged. Damaged hair lacks luster and shine. The hair shafts stop shining when the cuticles are damaged even after applying a deep conditioner. The rough cuticles of damaged hair get tangled up easily and result in knots. The dryness makes it hard to get these tangles out which often leads to breakage. There are several causes for damaged hair which can be taken care with proper hair care and a few hair mask. These include:

Avocado Mask for Damaged Hair:

Avocados are rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals that will help restore luster to your dry hair. Mash a ripe avocado with pit removed. Mix this with one egg and then apply this mixture to wet hair. Leave on for at least 20 minutes, then rinse several times. Repeat once a week for damaged hair and once a month for healthy hair.

Butter for Damaged Hair:

Dry, brittle hair can be treated with a small amount of butter for a glossy shine. Massage it into your dry hair, then cover your hair with a shower cap for about a half hour. Shampoo as usual, and rinse all the butter out.

Olive oil for Damaged Hair:

Warm up half a cup of olive oil, and then rubbing it into your hair. Make sure not to boil it. Cover tresses with a plastic bag, then wrap everything in a towel. Leave it for 45 minutes and then shampoo and completely rinse. This will put the moisture back into dry hair.

Rinse with tea:

Tea can also be used to give dry hair a natural shine. Use a quart of warm, unsweetened tea that is freshly brewed or instant as a final rinse after your regular shampoo. Tea can enhance hair color, so make sure to use a tea that works with your hair color. Blondes should use chamomile tea as black tea may darken their tresses. Brunettes should use black tea to enhance shine and enrich color.

Apple cider vinegar mask for Damaged Hair:

If your hair's pH is too high, it can cause the cuticle to lift and frizz. An ACV rinse can help restore the pH balance in your hair and scalp as well as add shine to it.
Mix one teaspoon apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 3 egg whites. Apply this mixture into your dry hair. Keep your hair covered for about a half hour using plastic wrap or a shower cap, then shampoo and rinse.

Egg and shampoo for Damaged Hair:

Mix one egg with a small amount of shampoo. Apply this to your damaged hair for five minutes and rinse well. This treatment helps to enhance the protein in your hair.

Botanical oils for Damaged Hair:

Oils such as olive, jojoba, and sweet almond oils works as wonder for damaged hair. If your hair is thick and heavy, coconut oil works well. Dampen your hair and apply small amounts of the botanical oil until your hair is thoroughly covered. Cover your hair with a shower cap and warm towel for about 30 minutes, then rinse and shampoo your hair.

Sandalwood oil for Damaged Hair:

Mix a few drops of sandalwood oil with a few drops of olive or jojoba oil. Rub the mixture between your palms and then smooth it through the ends of your dry hair for instant sleekness. Alternately, squirt a few drops of hand lotion in your palm and smooth it through damaged hair.

Some useful tips for Damaged Hair:

  • Identify the damaged hair as early as possible and take steps to repair it. With proper care and treatment, your hair can be nourished back to healthy. It is essential to repair hair damage as soon as you notice because once the damage spreads, you might have no choice but to chop it off.
  • You must get a trim before you work on restoring your hair if you have split ends.
  • Avoid hot styling tools as much as possible and try out styles that don't need heat. Let your hair dry naturally. In case ou use a blow drier, use it on a low heat or a cool setting.
  • Dyeing, bleaching, or perming your hair when it is damaged will spread the damage to a point beyond repair. So avoid doing such thing and avoid use of products that contain chemical. Instead restore your hair using natural ingredients.
  • Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Replace your hair products with natural ingredients, such as oils and home made conditioning masks.
  • Use natural hair dyes like henna or tea, instead of colors that contain chemicals. Natural dyes are less harsh on your hair.
  • If you swim regularly, it is important to condition your hair before you swim. For best results, use coconut oil to condition your hair. It will form a protective layer around your hair, which will shield it from the harsh chemicals in the water.
  • Hot water opens up the cuticle, whereas cold water can help close it. Rinsing with cool or cold water can help protect the inner layer of your hair and lock the moisturizer.
  • Maintaining a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, along with regular exercise, can promote the health of your hair protecting it against any damage.
