High cholesterol is also known as hypercholesterolemia, which is harmful and can cause serious health problems. Cholesterol has basically got accumulated along artery walls, which generally becomes a risk of getting heart disease. Normally, blood cholesterol levels should be under 200 mg/dL. It is considered as high cholesterol when it increases to 240 or higher mg/dL.

  • Take a cup of water and add 2 teaspoons of coriander seed powder to it .
  • Boil the water and then strain it.
  • Drink this mixture 1-2times a day.


Indian Gooseberry

Indian gooseberry or amla works as a natural hypolipidemic agent, which is useful to reduce lipid concentrations in the serum. A study shows that indian Gooseberry contains hypolipidemic, antihyperlipidemic and anti-atherogenic properties.


Things To Do

  • Add one teaspoon of Indian gooseberry powder in a glass of lukewarm water.
  • Drink it everyday on an empty stomach in the morning.


Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar contains many health benefits. It is also a great home remedy for a number of health problems like high blood pressure, gout, acid reflux and upper respiratory infections. Apple cider vinegar is helpful in reducing triglyceride levels and total cholesterol.


Things To Do

  • Add 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of water.
  • Drink this 2-3 times a day for better result.

Onions

Red onions are useful in controlling high cholesterol. It can  help reducing bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol levels which reduces the risk of having heart disease.


Things To Do

  • Combine one teaspoon each of honey and onion juice and drink it once everyday.
  • Take finely chopped onion and one-fourth teaspoon of pepper and a cup of buttermilk. Mix well and have it everyday.
  • Also add garlic, onion and ginger in your food.


Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is an effective home remedy for high cholesterol, even if contains saturated fat. Lauric acid present in coconut oil is helpful to increase HDL.


Things To Do

  • Add little amount of coconut oil in your food.
  • You can use 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil everyday in cooking. Always use organic coconut oil instead of refined oil.


Oatmeal

Oatmeal is an easy and effective home remedy to reduce your high cholesterol levels. It contains soluble fiber and lowers the absorption of cholesterol by the body. It is also very helpful for reducing bad cholesterol levels.


Things To Do 

  • Approximately 3 grams of soluble fiber present in one cup of cooked oatmeal.
  • You can also include nuts and fruits like strawberries, walnuts, apples, bananas to your oatmeal for added health advantages.

Orange Juice

Fresh orange juice is very effective in reducing blood cholesterol levels naturally. Orange juice contains  vitamin C, folate, and flavonoids. orange juice daily is helpful to increase HDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and decrease the LDL/HDL ratio in hypercholesterolemic patients.


Things To Do

  • Drink 2-3 cups of fresh orange juice everyday.
  • Add oranges in your fruit diet.


Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acids present in Fish oils and fatty fish are very effective in reducing high cholesterol. Include mackerel, tuna, trout, herring, salmon, bluefish and sardines in your diet as they are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. They are helpful in preventing heart disease as they can help lower triglycerides which is a kind of fat found in the blood.

  • Include 1-4 grams of fish oil everyday.
  • You can also include ground flaxseeds, which contains omega-3 fatty acids.


Nuts

Nuts contains various health benefits and its an effective home remedy controlling high cholesterol. Nuts like Walnuts, almonds, pistachios, pecans, peanuts, hazelnuts and other nuts and seeds are useful reducing cholesterol because they contains plant sterols and fiber. Particular Walnuts has the potential to help lower total cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
