Munnar is a hill station located in the Western Ghats, in the state of Kerala, which is one of the biggest tea-plantation area of South India. Famous for its tea estates, exotic lush greenery and craggy peaks serves as the commercial center for some of the world's largest tea estates.
Munnar has many protected areas which are home to endemic and highly endangered species like the Nilgiri Thar and the Neelakurinji. Situated on the banks of three rivers- Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru, Munnar is blessed with natural view-points. Munnar is divided into Old Munnar and Munnar. Old Munnar has the tourist information office and Munnar has the bus station and most guest houses. The major attractions of Munnara are Rose garden, Echo point, Elephant arrival spot, Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, Mattupetti Dam, Eravikulam National Park, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, tea plantations and many more.
The Forest Rose Garden is located just 2 km from Munnar. Blooms with forest rose and a variety of other rare flowers, the sight is definitely worth a visit.
Echo Point is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala is a very scenic place to visit. Echo Point got its name from the natural echo phenomenon that occurs here.
Elephant arrival spot is 18 km from Munnar. You can board an Elephant ride here to explore the wilderness of the region.
Because of its picturesque serenity and calm environment, Photo Point is a very popular attraction in Munnar which is located 2 kms from Munnar on the way to the Madupetty Dam. It is a small area of land, filled with calm woods and a small, sparkling stream.
Kolukkumalai Tea Estate is situated at an altitude of 8000 ft. above sea levels which is located 35 km off Munnar. This tea factory is one of the highest in the world and is famous for its flavorsome tea.
Mattupetti Dam is highly famous for the Indo-Swiss live stock projects which is situated 13 km off Munnar at 1700m above the sea level. This picnic spot is also popular for various activities like speed boating and horse riding among its visitors.
