Taking good care of your cuticles is as important as nails to help them grow faster and stronger naturally. Nails and cuticles should be treated well for the nails to grow fast and stay healthy. Mentioned below are some self care tips which one can follow to grow nails stronger and faster naturally.

Keep the skin and cuticles moisturized:

Keeping the skin and cuticles moisturized is the basic step for getting longer and stronger nails. The dry skin around the nails and on your hands makes your skin more prone to bacterial and fungal infections, which in turn causes damage to the nails as well. So make sure to keep your nails and cuticles moisturized.
Nourish your nails with oil such as olive, coconut or flaxseed depending on the easy availability and need. As olive and coconut oil, both, have anti-fungal properties, use them for broken, ugly and fungusy nails. Use flaxseed oil if your nails are just weak. Gently massage the warmed oil into your cuticles and you can get healthy and long nails in no time.

Keep the nails in proper shape:

Regular grooming of nails will prevent them from breaking while you are trying to grow them. This involves keeping the nails regularly cut and in shape. Keeping the nails dry is also important in growing them long. As wet nails have a tendency to break and chip more often than dry nails, the nails should be thoroughly dried after you have taken a shower or a bath.

Give regular massage to your nails:

As certain diseases tend to make your nails weak and reduce the blood circulation towards the nail bed, giving them a good massage will improve the blood circulation towards the nail bed and would help nails grow long and strong.

Avoid aggressive manicure & pedicure:

The use of un-sterilized manicure and pedicure tools at a beauty salon is one of the causes for transmission of infections from one individual to another resulting in various nail problems. To avoid this you can carry your own personal kit while you visit a salon for manicure and pedicure. Sometimes people get their cuticles trimmed leaving them open to infections leading to an infection of the nail bed and would affect the growth of the nails along with making them weak. To avoid all these problems and help grow your nails faster and stronger naturally, make sure you get manicure and pedicure done at a professional salon.

Avoid putting chemicals on nails:

Putting harsh chemicals on the nails while doing manicure and pedicure techniques also takes the strength away from your nails and hinders their easy growth. The etchant used on nails makes them weak. Using very harsh nail paint removers also make your nails weak and make them break or chip off when you are trying to grow them. Avoid using very harsh chemicals on the nails to keep them strong and to promote their fast and strong growth.

Get treatment for any underlying diseases to grow nails stronger & faster:

There are several underlying diseases, which cause the nails to become weak and brittle such as diabetes. It is necessary to treat any underlying diseases to make your nails healthy along with your overall health.

Fruit juice for your nails:

The citric acid and Vitamin C in lemon and orange juice is a good combination for strengthening nails and vanishing the yellowish color of nail. You can rub a slice of a lemon or orange on your nails every day for a few minutes, or you can soak your nails in a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil, or just plain orange juice, for 5 minutes. Wash it off well and apply a good moisturizer afterwards. Don't use this remedy if you have hangnails or have a cut on your fingers.

Include healthy food in your diet:

Nails are made up of protein called keratin like our hair. So to grow your hair faster you need to add protein rich food in your diet. Fingernails tend to grow quicker and faster than the toenails. Eggs, milk and curds, meat and chicken are some of the food that should be on your list if you want to know how to grow nails faster.

Salt for healthy nails:

Dissolve 3-4 pinches of salt and a tablespoon of olive oil in a bowl of water. Soak your fingertips in this mini spa for 10-15 minutes. Wash it off well and apply a good moisturizer afterwards. Add a few drops of freshly-squeezed lemon juice or orange juice if your nails are yellowish.

Petroleum jelly for healthy nails:

Apply a layer of the jelly on clean and washed hands, and let it sit for a few minutes so that it can penetrate into your skin and nails. Do this before your bath and wash it off using a mild cleanser. Weak and brittle nails, and dry cuticles can be a solution using Petroleum Jelly.

Rose water for healthy nails:

Rose water has antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and acts as a natural moisturizer. Use rose water regularly after cleaning your fingers thoroughly to get best result.
