Serchhip is famous for being the district with the highest literacy rate in India. This small town can give one the experience of a small village, the life, activities and colors that it sustains in the everyday. Neihloh and Buangpuri are some of the popular villages one can visit here. It lies in the central part of Mizoram, and 112 km away from the State capital city of Aizawl.

The origin of the name comes from citrus trees found on top of the first hill of the then Serchhip village. The word meaning of Ser-chhip is 'citrus-on-top'. Vantawng Khawhltha water fall,Chhingpui Thlan and Hriantrengna lung are some of the other tourist spot. It has an average elevation of 888 metres (2913 feet) and lies between the two very important rivers of Mat and Tuikum. River Tuikum is a public drinking water for Serchhip and River Mat is an irrigation water for Zawlpui, the rice bowl of Serchhip. Being situated near Mat river valley, Serchhip is the main producer of cash crops in Mizoram, famous for its cabbages and mustards.

Vantawng falls is the highest waterfalls in the state that gush down from a height of 751 feet, seeming majestic among the surrounding bamboo groves. These two tiered falls are aptly named, literally meaning Heaven's reaching falls.

It is about 4 km to the south of Thenzawl (sub-division) at Lau River. The artistic design like seven rounded storey cliff of this falls is very attractive. It was named after the great swimmer Vantawnga who was living in a nearby village.

Chhingpuii Thlan is a stone memorial is named after a beautiful woman Chhingpuii who married Kaptuanga but was kidnapped and killed during the second civil war. It is after this that her husband was devastated and committed suicide.

Thenzawl is another town in the Serchhip district which is a flat area with beautiful grassy landscape. Vantawng Falls is very near to this town. You can also get a chance to enjoy Paragliding here in Serchhip. Do ensure that the local vendor is following all security practices.
