Tomato is a super-food with lots of nutrients that is beneficial for your health as well as skin. Incorporating tomato in the regular diet helps prevent the growth of some cancer forms. It also lowers cholesterol levels, thereby minimizing the risk of cardiovascular disorders.
The vitamin A, vitamin C, lycopene and proteins present in tomato helps increasing fairness, balancing pH, tightening pores, treating sunburn, reducing irritation and curing acne problem of skin. Lycopene is basically a carotenoid, which counteracts the action of free radicals in the body thus resulting in a youthful skin. This is a strong antioxidant that gives tomato its distinctive color. It is its high antioxidant content that makes tomato a special treat for skin and health.

Lightens Skin Tone:

Tomatoes simply transforms dull looking skin and gives it a youthful appearance. So, if you want to make your face glow and blemish free, use fresh tomato juice liberally on a regular basis. Blend half of tomato juice with one tablespoon of honey and apply this mixture to your face. Let it sit for 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. This can give you a fairer and more glowing complexion.

Reduces Skin Oiliness:

Tomato pulp and tomato juice are used to combat excess production of oils from the sebaceous glands. Just cut a ripe tomato into two halves and rub the pulpy side over the face. Leave the juice for 15 minutes, so that it penetrates deep into the skin pores. Rinse off thoroughly with cold water. Repeat this two times daily to reduce facial oil secretion.
Alternatively, blend together the juice of a tomato and cucumber, and apply it on your face using a cotton ball. Apply this mixture to your face. Let it sit for 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water.

Cleanses Skin:

Fresh juice prepared from tomato is great for cleansing the skin pores. Simply massage the juice on your face and allow to dry. Then rinse skin with cool water. you can also cut a tomato transversely and place a half part in crystalline sugar. Rub it over the face in circular motions to remove dirt and dead skin cells. Keep it like that for some time and rinse off with cold water.

Relieves Skin Irritation:

Tomatoes can be used for reducing itching, unusual redness, scaling and irritation symptoms of skin. As the juice is slightly acidic, it regulates the skin pH level and cures irritated skin.
Dull, irritated or sunburn skin can be repaired with a curd and tomato face mask. Apply this mixture to your face and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing it off with cold water. Curd nourishes with protein while tomato cools the skin.

Tightens Skin Pores:

One of great benefits of tomato juice for face is shrinking of open pores. It works as a natural astringent and constricts wide pores. Wide pores need to be taken care of as it looks noticeable and are prone to debris accumulation. Hence, instead of using astringent lotions, just rub tomato juice all over the face before going to bed and wash off the next day.
Alternatively, Mix one spoonful of tomato juice with 4 to 5 drops of lemon juice and apply on your face. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water to shrink open pores.

Reduces Acne Outbreak:

Although it is slow in its action, you can use tomato juice in treating acne and pimples. Just make fresh tomato juice and rub it with gentle massaging. Wait for one hour and rinse off. Repeat it daily until acne disappears completely. You need to have patience to see the results.

Removes Blackheads:

Juice of tomato is also a wonderful remedy for getting rid of unsightly blackheads. You can use tomato juice alone for massaging over the areas having blackheads. Alternatively, apply a facial mask of tomato juice and ripe avocado flesh to remove blackheads, reduce oiliness, tighten pores and moisturize the skin.

Treats Sunburn

Tomato juice is rich with antioxidants, which can cure symptoms of sunburn. It helps in restoring the dead skin cells, thereby promoting quick recovery. For better results, mix tomato juice with buttermilk properly, and apply this mixture all over the face and other sunburn areas. Leave for half an hour before washing with cold water.

Makes Skin Supple:

Lack of collagen or less production of this fibrous protein is a main reason for development of aging lines or wrinkles. Tomato stimulates the formation of collagen, which is responsible for maintaining skin elasticity. Thus, adding this pulp fruit cum vegetable in your diet will result in smooth, soft and wrinkle free skin.
As different skin type reacts differently, carefully apply these tomato mask looking in to your skin type. Some tips are given below:
  • If you have combination skin, you can make a cleansing mask using tomato juice and avocado pulp. Your skin is hydrated with the avocado and the tomato does the job of an astringent.
  • Rejuvenate oily skin with the refreshing combination of tomato and cucumber. The natural astringent properties of both soak up the oil and also prevent the skin from dehydrating too much.
  • The moisturizing property of olive oil combines with tomato for face with dry skin, leaving it soft and supple.
