Symptoms Of Gastritis

Causes Of Gastritis:

Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Damage to the mucus-lined barrier that ensures your stomach wall enables your digestive juices to harm and inflame your stomach lining. Common causes include infection with Helicobacter pylori and use of NSAIDs. Other basic causes incorporate liquor, smoking, cocaine, serious illness, immune system issues, radiation treatment and Crohn's disease. Gastritis can be caused by bile reflux, a back flow of bile into the stomach from the bile tract that connects to the liver and gallbladder. In case gastritis is not treated, it can cause a severe loss of blood and may increase the risk of developing stomach cancer.

Diagnosis Of Gastritis:

A diagnosis can be made based on the patient's description of their symptoms, but other methods which may be used to verify gastritis include:

  • Blood tests which include blood cell count  to determine whether you have anemia, which means that you do not have enough red blood cells.
  • Presence of H. pylori, Liver, kidney, gallbladder, or pancreas functions Urinalysis,
  • Stool sample to look for blood in the stool,
  • X-rays,
  • ECGs,
  • Endoscopy to check for stomach lining inflammation and mucous erosion. An endoscope, a thin tube containing a tiny camera, is inserted through your mouth and down into your stomach to look at the stomach lining and check for inflammation.
  • Stomach biopsy, to test for gastritis and other conditions, a procedure in which a tiny sample of tissue is removed and then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
